BIO
kaoss aka Tommie Emmi has been the driving element of the Omaha drum n bass scene from day one. Starting in late 1995 and introduced to the sound from
Tony Markham from Kansas City and Dj Starscream aka Sid Wilson of Des Moines - now a member of the metal band Slipknot - he began his career with the mash up
and ragga sounds of yesteryear. Dealing with the frustration of clearing dance floors due to the confused feet of party kids and the strong dislike for the music at first, kaoss stayed true to the form
and kept pushing and pushing, force feeding the ears and feet of party goers until the confused eventually understood and accepted the then new form of dance music for the area and finally corrupting the minds of the Midwest with the chaotic drum patterns emerging from the records he dropped on the decks to the dance floors people would consume party after party thereafter. As the years progressed through various styles of drum n bass, so did kaoss. He has menaced towns across the Midwest, the southern states, the east
coast and also performed in Vancouver, British Columbia. He has made quite a name for himself and for his hometown in Omaha by releasing one of the best local selling cds, Operating Instructions back in 1998, which made the top 5 best selling electronic-dance records along side Fatboy Slim, Portishead, Massive Attack
and UNKLE in the areas largest chain store, Homers. He also was the first Omaha dj to perform on the areas first weekly electronic radio show, 89.7FM - The River, and taking part in an interview with drum n bass icon DJ Dara on the Breakbeat Science weekly webcast show Velocity back in 1998.
kaoss has performed along side such djs as Dieselboy, Danny the Wildchild, Phantom 45, DJ Reality and MC Rage - Trouble On Vinyl/Renegade Hardware/True Playaz, UK- ,Dan Doormouse, DJ Icey, Bad Boy Bill, DJ Rinse and MC Jamalski, Keoki, DJ Irene, DJ Eye-D - Netherlands - and DJ Enrie just to name a few. He has also produced a few prodigies along the way and continues to help out the Midwest scene with the help of the NSMM, founded by dlux, t3mul3nt - OHM recordings - and himself in 1999. the NSMM have been responsible for Omaha's first and largest all hardcore and drum n bass event Grillotron in April of 1999, by bringing the first UK drum n bass tour through the area on the Trouble On Vinyl Mission Control Tour with DJ Reality and MC Rage, also in 1999 and holding the areas first weekly club event Decibel in the year 2000.
His mixing skills are
practically flawless and his track selection is always upfront with the
latest releases months in advance before they hit the store shelves and
always showcases various unreleased dub plate material from artists such as
DJ Eye-D and DJ Hidden of the Netherlands and original material from
himself.
kaoss
has quite an extensive back catalogue of mix cds and tapes
available ranging from old school hardcore to intelligent drum n bass to
jump up to the aggressive sounds heard in his sets today. He has
also
been busy in the production field, having 5 original tracks under his
belt and a few remixes as well. This Midwest talent is a media bomb
about to explode.
